In 2012, the Hong Kong SAR government included the islands of Dawn Island and Shek Kwu Chau, where the species was discovered in 2011, in the government's reclamation research plan and incinerator plan. Some environmental groups believe that if the Hong Kong bipedal lizard is discovered again, reclamation or large-scale infrastructure in the above-mentioned places should be stopped. The Development Bureau said that it will announce several reclamation sites in the fourth quarter of 2012 for public consultation, but did not disclose whether the above islands are on the list.

The Hong Kong lizard is very similar to the white-tailed lizard. The difference between the two is that the nasal scale groove of this species is incomplete and the body is larger. Not much is known about the living habits of the Bao's lizard.
