The fastest animal on earth

The fastest animal on earth is the cheetah. The cheetah, also known as the Indian leopard, is an animal in the genus Cheetah and the only species in the genus Cheetah. The cheetah is the fastest land animal in the world, with a speed of up to 115 kilometers per hour. If a human sprint world champion competes with a cheetah in a 100-meter race, the cheetah can let the world champion run 60 meters first, and it will be the cheetah that reaches the finish line, not the sprint world champion.

Cheetahs have black spots all over their bodies. There is a black stripe from the corner of the mouth to the corner of the eye, and there is a black ring pattern at the end of one third of the tail; the hair on the back of the neck is relatively long, like a very short mane, and the body is slender, with long legs and a small head. Inhabits temperate and tropical grasslands, deserts and savannahs with sparse trees.

Cheetahs are carnivores. They sneak up to a distance of 10 to 30 meters from their prey and then hunt them. When hunting, they can reach speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour with only one foot touching the ground. However, they can only run for a maximum of 3 minutes. Cheetahs are biologically designed to slow down or their bodies will overheat and die. Usually the prey can be hunted within 1 minute. If the cheetah fails to hunt, it will be a waste of energy. So a cheetah can generally only sprint a few hundred meters before it slows down. Otherwise, its body will overheat and collapse will occur. So this kind of running is very debilitating. Sometimes the cheetah catches the prey because it ran too fast just now, so it can't eat at that time. It has to take a rest or catch its breath before it can start eating.

Adult life for wild cheetahs is difficult. The average age span of a wild cheetah (male and female combined) is 10-12 years. The average lifespan of adult males in the wild is low (8 years), partly due to territorial conflicts with competing males. Adult mortality is one of the most important limiting factors to the growth and survival of wild cheetah populations. Cheetahs in captivity can live 17-20 years.

The fastest mammal on land (short distance): The fastest mammal on land is the cheetah. When measured over short distances, the maximum speed a cheetah can maintain stably on flat ground is about 100 kilometers per hour. (Guinness World Records)
