How long can the world's oldest cat live?

People who like to raise cats definitely hope that their pet cats can live a long and healthy life and stay with them for a few more years. But what is the natural lifespan of a cat? How many years did the world's oldest known cat live? Like people, whether cats can live long depends on many factors: such as genetics, environment, lifestyle, disease, and whether they have been injured. Other factors that affect a cat's lifespan include gender and whether it has received "neutering" surgery.

Tabby cat is a rare breed. A genetic mutation causes its fur to have a tabby-like pattern.

Also like people, female cats generally live longer than male cats; cats that have been neutered are more likely to live longer than cats that have not been neutered. Additionally, purebred cats have a shorter lifespan than hybrid or mongrel cats. Generally speaking, the average lifespan of a cat is about 15 years. However, domestic pet cats can be expected to live up to about 30 years. Of course, this doesn't mean that all domestic cats live this long on average.

You can infer the age of a cat by observing its coat color, teeth and eyes.

The world’s oldest cat

According to Guinness World Records, some cats not only live to be 30 years old, but even longer.

Let’s take a look at the ranking of the 5 oldest cats in the Guinness Book of World Records:

First place: The world's oldest cat is a tabby cat named Creme Puff, age: 38 years and 3 days (1967-2005). She is a female cat who lives in Austin, Texas, with her owner Jack Perry.

Second place: closely followed by a short-haired black cat named Baby. It also lives in the United States. Age: 38 years old (1970-2008).

Third place: This cat’s name is Puss, age: 36 years and 1 day (1903-1939). Puss was the record holder for the longest-lived cat in the 1990 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records. He is a male cat from Devon. Died the day after his 36th birthday.

Fourth place: Also in the 1990 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records, a female tabby cat named Ma was included, age: 34 years and 5 months (1923-1957), also from Devon.

Fifth place: In fifth place is a cat named Granpa Rexs Allen. Age: 34 years and 2 months. Interestingly, the owner of this cat was also Jack Perry, the first owner of a long-lived cat. According to Perry, the secret to a cat's longevity is a cat's diet: eggs, broccoli, bacon, and coffee with cream.

How to calculate the age of a pet cat?

When calculating the age of pet cats and dogs, many people have heard that 1 year old is equivalent to 7 human years. But as people's understanding of animal age increases, this method is actually outdated and inaccurate.

Cats are their owners’ treasures and good friends.

For example, a 1-year-old cat is much more mature than a 7-year-old child.

There is a specific scientific formula for how to calculate the age of a pet dog: 16xln (age of the dog) + 31, where ln represents a mathematical function called the natural logarithm.

For example, a 2-year-old dog is equivalent to 42 years in human age: 16×ln(2)+31.

Black cats are not easy to be selected for adoption.

However, there is currently no such fixed formula for pet cats, but there are still many ways to estimate a cat's actual age, including by observing the cat's teeth, eyes, bones, muscles, and hair.

If there are tartar spots on a few white teeth of a cat, it means that the cat is at least 1 or 2 years old; if all the teeth have yellow spots, then the cat is at least 3 or 5 years old; if there are already missing teeth, then the cat is at least 3 or 5 years old. He must be old: about 10 to 15 years old.

Cats' eyes begin to become cloudy after the age of 12. The kitten's eyes are clearer and smoother.

But it is generally accepted that the first two years of a cat's life are roughly equivalent to the first 25 years of a human's life. Therefore, some people have concluded that a 1-year-old cat is equivalent to 18 years old; 4-year-old cats are equivalent to 35 years old; 8-year-old cats are equivalent to 50 years old; 12-year-old cats are equivalent to 70 years old, etc.

In addition, old cats look more "skinny", their coats are duller, and they lack the plumpness and toned posture of their youth.

If you are not sure about your cat's age, you can also go to the veterinarian to calculate the closest age.

Some other cat fun:

1. Cats cannot taste sweetness.

2. Cats also have left and right paws: female cats usually have right paws, and male cats have left paws.

3. Cats have extraordinary night vision and can easily sense the movement of prey in the dark and capture it quickly.

4. The pupil of a cat's eye changes three times a day: in the morning it looks like a date stone; at noon it looks like a vertical line; at night, its pupil almost fills the entire eyeball.

5. A cat's snoring does not always mean that he is comfortable and satisfied, but may also mean that he is healing himself.

6. Cats sweat through their paws.
