Details
Smoke black fork tail petrel (scientific name: Oceanites oceanicus) foreign name Wilson' s Storm-Petrel, a kind of bird.
The petrels live alone or in small groups. Flying low, flapping loosely, occasionally gliding briefly, sometimes tilting or rolling. When feeding, stop in the air and flutter the wings or slapping the water under the feet. Always follow the boat. Nest in rock crevices or underground, mostly on isolated islands.
Protect wild animals and eliminate wild meat.
Maintaining ecological balance is everyone's responsibility!
Location
Basically all over the world's oceans. It has been recorded in the South China Sea, passing near Hong Kong (Lamont, 1992). Some "white-waisted" petrel found in Hong Kong waters may be of this species.
Form
Small (17 cm) dark brown petrels. Tail without fork, waist and tail under the cover of white. The wings are wide and short, and the front and back edges of the wings lack significant angles. Short tail, feet sticking out behind the tail when flying. The dark wing feathers contrast strongly with the lighter upper and lower wings.
Iris - brown; Mouth - brown; Feet - black, webbed yellow.
Chirping: The occasional grumbling, sparrow-like sound of birds when feeding.
