Can deepwater turtles stay in the water all the time?

2023-05-15 15:55:52 197

Deepwater turtles can usually stay in the water for long periods of time, but they also need to come up for air. Therefore, even though they can swim and stay in the water for a long time, they still need to come ashore or to the surface to breathe fresh air. Some deep-water turtles (such as Terrapins) have greater aquatic adaptations and can stay underwater for longer periods of time, but they still need to come up to breathe air.

Deepwater turtles are reptiles that live in water and belong to the order Turtles. Deepwater turtles are usually relatively large and bulky, and have excellent ability to adapt to underwater life. Their shells are generally flatter than those of other land turtles, helping them swim in the water. The feet of deep-water turtles have also evolved into a wing-like shape, allowing them to swim faster and more nimbly in the water.

Deep-water turtles are mainly distributed in temperate and tropical rivers, lakes and ponds, and feed mainly on aquatic plants, small fish, insects, etc. Under human interference, some deep-water turtles have been threatened and need to be protected. In addition, deep-water turtles are still favorite pets of many people, but breeding deep-water turtles requires certain professional knowledge and equipment, and it is not recommended to buy and breed them casually.
