Raccoon (Procyon lotor), also known as red panda and raccoon bear, is a medium-sized mammal belonging to the Procyon family. They are found in forests, grasslands, and urban parks in North and Central and South America.

Raccoons usually have a body length of between 40 and 70 centimeters, a tail length of about 20 and 40 centimeters, and a weight between 3 and 12 kilograms. Raccoons have a gray to brown body, a lighter belly, and mask-like black markings covering the eyes.

Raccoons are omnivores, feeding on insects, small vertebrates, fruits and nuts, and occasionally poultry and debris. In urban environments, raccoons are often seen as troublemakers because they can dig through trash cans in search of food.

Raccoons were once widely hunted and endangered due to the commercial value of their fur and the importance of their ecological functions. But now, raccoons have become one of the protected animals in some countries. They are valued by the law and people, and their population numbers have gradually stabilized.
