Pandas (giant pandas) are a unique mammal in that they belong to the bear family (Ursidae) rather than to the feline family (Felidae). Although their name contains the word "cat," pandas are not felines.
Pandas, China's national treasure, have black and white fur, chubby bodies and thumb-like "false thumbs" to better grip bamboo. They mainly live in the mountainous areas of China and rely on bamboo as their main food source.
Because the panda's appearance and behavioral characteristics are similar to those of bears and cats, it is named "Panda". However, from a taxonomic perspective, pandas are classified as Ursidae and are related to other bear species such as brown bears and black bears.
