Is abalone a fish?

2023-12-01 15:43:05 25

Abalone is not actually a fish, but a type of marine shellfish in the family Haliotidae of the phylum Mollusca. Although they are often referred to as "fish," they are not actually part of the same group of organisms as fish.

Fish belong to the phylum Chordata and have the characteristics of a backbone, while abalone is a mollusk and belongs to the phylum Mollusca. Their body structure and characteristics are obviously different from those of fish. Therefore, from a taxonomic perspective, abalone and fish do not belong to the same group of organisms.
