The Gouldian Swiftlet belongs to the Swiftidae family. The population is rare. The nominate subspecies breeds in Kalimantan Island, Indonesia, Sulawesi Island, Malaysian Borneo, Hoi An, Vietnam, and Dazhou Island in the southeast of Hainan Island. There are more than 200 nests in three caves at most. It may also be common on some islands in the South China Sea.
The Gouldian Swiftlet breeds in cracks in coastal cliffs. The bird's nest made of yellowish transparent saliva is collected to make soup. This bird can locate by sound waves.
Some authors classify this species as Java swiftlet C. fuciphaga (see Zheng Zuoxin, 1987). This species can be classified as Aerodramus.
