Phaethornis guy

The Phaethornis guy, also known as the Green hermit, feeds mainly on the nectar of various flowers and also eats small insects. The green hidden hummingbird lays one egg at a time, a cone-shaped nest built under a large leaf, usually above the water. The eggs hatch for 17 to 18 days, and after 21 to 23 days the chicks grow their feathers and fly out of the nest.

It's a relatively large hummingbird. It is 13.5 cm long and weighs 6.3 grams. The reddish mouth is long and curved downward. The male is mostly dark green with a blue-green tail. The eyes are black with yellowish streaks down the middle of the throat. The central feathers of the waning tail are white and long, and are used to show off in courtship. The female is duller in color, with a dark gray underside, and also has a long mouth and tail. The western green hidden hummingbird has a slightly smaller crown and is more similar between males and females.

It is found mainly in Central and South America, from Panama and Costa Rica south to eastern Peru, northeastern Venezuela, and Trinidad.
The green hidden hummingbird lives in the lower jungle of the forest, usually near water, preferring hilly areas.
