Phoeniculus purpureus

Having a crested crest on its head; The mouth shape is slender, slightly curved from the base; The wing is short round, and the primary flying feathers are 10; Tail length is moderate and nearly square, tail feathers 10; The tarsus is short but not weak, and the anterior and posterior margins are peltate scale; The combination of the toe base is incomplete, the middle toe and the outer toe are only connected to the base, and the inner toe is free. Both sexes have similar plumage.
Black coracoid exists only on the left side, the posterior sternum is deeply incised, and the xiphoid process is wide and flat. The deep plantar tendons separate from each other to the branches of the flexor digitorum longus, but the flexor pollicis longus has a ligament extending to the muscle plate connected to the tendon of the middle toe, and the connection point is below the root of the toe.

It is found only in sub-Saharan Africa.

Phoeniculus purpureus and Green Wood hoopoe are unknown.
