Location
It is found in Indochina Peninsula and southeast coastal areas of China (including Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and southeast coastal areas of China, Hong Kong and Hainan Island). The Pacific Islands (including China's Taiwan Province, Dongsha Islands, Xisha Islands, Zhongsha Islands, Nansha Islands and the Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia's Sumatra, Java Island and Papua New Guinea).
The crested hornbill has been recorded south of Xishuangbanna in southern Yunnan, China, and also occurs in southeastern Tibet.
Form
A small (74 cm) brown hornbill. The eyes are blue, the mouth is dark yellow, and the helmet is small. The primary feather tip is white, which is very visible during flight; Outer tail feather tip white. The male bird has a white throat and brown underbody. Iris - reddish brown; Mouth - dark yellow; Feet - Black.
