Campethera maculosa

The small green woodpecker is about 30cm long. Male bird forehead and the front of the head bright red, bright abnormal; Female birds have no red on their heads. Straight mouth, strong as chisel; The tongue is slender and telescopic, with short hooks at the tip. A black stripe from base of mouth to eye; The rest of the head is gray, the face, larynx and foreneck are lighter, nearly white; Back head, back neck thick color, mixed black feathers. The body feathers are mainly green; The wings are dark brown with white spots on the outer edges. The lower body is stained gray and green from the chest. Central tail brown, tip near dark brown, stem dark brown. The tail feathers are stiff as thorns. The feet are short, with 4 toes, 2 toes forward and 2 toes backward, all with sharp hooks.

The small green woodpecker is found in central and southern Africa, including the southern Arabian Peninsula and the entire African continent south of the Sahara Desert (Tropic of Cancer).

The Little Green Woodpecker is known by its scientific name Campethera maculosa and its foreign names are Little Green Woodpecker and Golden-backed woodpecker。
