The small green woodpecker is about 30cm long. Male bird forehead and the front of the head bright red, bright abnormal; Female birds have no red on their heads. Straight mouth, strong as chisel; The tongue is slender and telescopic, with short hooks at the tip. A black stripe from base of mouth to eye; The rest of the head is gray, the face, larynx and foreneck are lighter, nearly white; Back head, back neck thick color, mixed black feathers. The body feathers are mainly green; The wings are dark brown with white spots on the outer edges. The lower body is stained gray and green from the chest.
