Rhinogobio typus belongs to the order Cypriniformes, family Cyprinidae, subfamily Rhinogobio, and genus Rhinogobio typus. Commonly known as: Ma Gan, Qiuzi, long-nosed poplar fish.

It inhabits shallow rivers and river beds with sediment or gravel as the bottom. It is relatively rare in lakes and is a bottom-living fish. It mainly feeds on benthic invertebrates, such as chironomid larvae, aquatic insects, etc. It also eats a small amount of algae and other sedimented organic matter. The reproductive period is in late April or early May, and the growth rate is relatively slow. The snorkel is distributed in the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River and the Minjiang River system.
