The body is long, the sides are flat, and the abdomen is round. The head length is approximately equal to the body height. The kiss is slightly blunt. The starting points of the dorsal and pelvic fins are opposite and located in the center of the body; the anal fin is well developed, and the longest fin in males reaches the base of the caudal fin; the pectoral fin has a long tip and ends at the pelvic fin. The back of the body is black and gray, the belly is silvery white, and there are more than 10 black horizontal stripes on the sides of the body with red spots in between. The back and tail fins are gray with green spots, and the other fins are reddish.

Live in small tributaries of rivers, small channels and small streams. It often likes to live in clear water bodies with micro-flowing water.


The distribution area is narrow and it is only found in water bodies near Chengdu and Pengxian County in Sichuan Province. The population size is small. Because it is distributed in small water bodies near cities, it is not only affected by industrial sewage, but also harmed by poisonous, electrofishing and other fishing methods, resulting in a significant decline in the number of individuals in the population. Currently, it is rarely seen in the distribution area.
