The rainbow ray is a group of fish that inhabits the middle and lower layers of rivers in mountainous areas in the south. The individual is relatively small, with body length not exceeding 150 mm. There are 5 horizontal yellow bands on the side of the body, which have certain ornamental value. It feeds on algae. Individuals with a body length of about 100 mm reach sexual maturity. The breeding season is from February to May every year.

The ovaries and fat of the rainbow bald fish are poisonous. Eating it can cause diarrhea in mild cases and vomiting in severe cases. Therefore, it is not used as a food fish, but has been developed and utilized as an ornamental fish in recent years.
