The plowshare loach is also known as the swallow fish, stone pickle, oxtail, and long-tailed loach. Distributed in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and its tributaries. It is a small benthic fish that inhabits the rocky beaches of mountain streams with fast currents. When living, the pectoral and pelvic fins are spread flat and adsorbed on rocks to prevent them from being washed away by water. Feeds on solid algae. It has extremely high requirements on water quality and dissolved oxygen. The reproductive season is from mid-April to early June.
