The Boston Terrier is one of the few dog breeds bred in the United States.
In the 19th century, the Boston Terrier breed was born in the bullfighting activities centered on Boston. In the early days, the Boston Terrier was a modified breed of bulldogs and bull terriers. Later, a lot of improvements were made by selecting the same breed for mating and breeding with the French Bulldog. In 1891, when the American Bull Terrier Club in Boston applied for the recognition of the breed, it was not approved because the name of the Bull Terrier sounded uncomfortable. It was not until 1983 that it was finally recognized by the Boston Club in the United States.
Many people confuse the Boston Terrier with the French Bulldog when they first see it, because both of them have erect ears and a big square face. However, it is not difficult to distinguish between the two. As long as you observe carefully, you will find that the Boston Terrier is lighter and the French Bulldog looks more honest.
As the first non-sporting dog breed bred in the United States, the Boston Terrier has gradually walked out of the United States and into the eyes of people around the world, becoming one of the most popular breeds among show dogs and family dogs. In 2016, the American Kennel Club also listed the Boston Terrier as one of the most popular dog breeds of the year.
Experts in the organization said, "An ideal Boston Terrier should have white covering its chest, running through the head, neck, and below the hocks." And it is the iconic coat distribution of the Boston Terrier that makes people remember it. From a distance, the Boston Terrier looks like it is wearing a tuxedo. Because of its elegant appearance, the Boston Terrier has earned the title of "American Gentleman" and became the mascot of Boston University in 1922, representing the loyalty, courage, determination, speed, aggressiveness and fighting spirit of Boston University.
The Boston Terrier is very lively and very smart. It has a strong ability to accept new things and can quickly learn the owner's instructions. It is also very sensitive to the owner's voice, so it will not be very difficult to train. And with the continuous optimization of the Boston Terrier breed, the traditional aggressiveness no longer exists. It is very gentle and patient. It can live in peace with other pets and children.
