Sudden climate change theory of dinosaur extinction

According to data obtained from deep-sea geological drilling, some scientists believe that the climate on the earth experienced abnormal changes 65 million years ago, and the temperature suddenly increased. This change prevents cold-blooded animals with weak heat dissipation capabilities such as dinosaurs from being able to adapt to the environment well, causing endocrine system disorders in their bodies, especially causing serious damage to the reproductive systems of male individuals. As a result, the dinosaurs were unable to reproduce and eventually became extinct.

There is another theory. Although it is also believed that sudden changes in climate caused the extinction of the dinosaurs, the inferred process is different. Scholars of this school believe that about 70 million years ago, the Arctic Ocean was completely separated from other oceans by land, and in the last days the salty sea water gradually turned into fresh water due to various factors. About 65 million years ago, the "bank" that separated the Arctic Ocean from other oceans suddenly burst. Large amounts of Arctic Ocean water, lightened by desalination, flows into other oceans. Because the water temperature in the Arctic Ocean is very low, these "overflow" cold water form a layer of cold currents, causing the seawater temperature in the Earth's oceans to rapidly drop by about 20 degrees. The drop in ocean temperatures has seriously affected the continental climate, cooling the air over the continent. At the same time, the water vapor content in the air also decreased rapidly, causing widespread drought on land. The combined effect of these climate changes on land was that the dinosaurs became extinct.

A possible way for sudden climate change to cause the extinction of dinosaurs is to seriously affect dinosaur eggs. Some scientists have discovered that at the end of the Cretaceous period before the extinction of the dinosaurs, the shells of dinosaur eggs tended to become thinner, indicating that drastic climate changes were responsible for the mass extinction of the dinosaurs. Some paleontologists in our country have also found that among the dinosaur eggs produced at some fossil sites, the pores on the eggshells of dinosaur eggs from the near-extinction period are less than those in the eggshells of dinosaur eggs from other periods. This is very likely Related to the climate becoming colder and drier.
