The body of the sicklefish is very flat and tall, almost round. The head is short and pointed. The snout is prominent and tubular. The teeth are thin, pointed, and bristly. There are bony spines on both sides of the front and upper side of the eye. The dorsal knot has 7 fin spines. The third fin spine is elongated and filamentous. There are sharp spines or bony plates on both sides of the caudal peduncle.


Small warm-water fish, usually inhabiting shallow waters on reefs. Body length 100-300 mm, rare. Distributed in the shallow waters of the tropical Indian Ocean and central Pacific Ocean. Our country is found in the South China Sea.
