The great blue-ringed octopus (scientific name: Hapalochlaena lunulata) is a species of octopus in the genus Blue-ringed octopus. Although it is called a "big" blue-ringed octopus, it is actually not that big, with its tentacles not exceeding 10 centimeters, and weighing about 80 grams. It is so named because the blue rings on its body (7 to 8 mm in diameter) are larger than those of octopuses of the same genus. It is widely distributed in the Indo-Pacific waters and carries poisonous enough to kill humans.
