1. Chinese insect surnames


According to statistics, there are more than 5,600 Chinese surnames found in literature, and there are 46 surnames with the character "Chong", including 35 single surnames and 11 compound surnames. (3) There are two surnames based on a certain insect state, namely Zhongshi (ant eggs) and Zhongsui (mosquito larvae). (4) The products of insects are given surnames such as cocoon and honey. (5) Surnames given by the emperor In the feudal era, surnames given by the emperor were mostly used for praise and win over, while when the surnames were related to insects, they were often related to persecution and suppression. For example, the surname Chu was originally Xiao. In the Southern and Northern Dynasties, Emperor Wu of Qi ordered the Xiao family to change their surname and gave it to Chu because of the rebellion of Xiao Xiang, the king of Badong. Therefore, in "Tongzhi·Clan Brief", there is "the name of Chu is based on fierce virtue." Among many Among the surnames, there is also the surname Kun, but this surname has no connection with real insects.

2. Foreign insect surnames


There are 12 foreign surnames related to insects in my country's cultural entomology archives, in alphabetical order: Ant, Bee, Beetle, Boatman, Fliege, Fly, Hopper, Looper, Mothes, Scales, Schnake and Worm. The English or German words for these surnames as insects are ants, bees, beetles, backstroke bugs, flies, barn flies, springtails, inchworms, moths, scale insects, large mosquitoes and worms (including some Lepidoptera larvae). Among these surnames, those with British surnames include Bee, Beetle, Boatman, Fly, Looper, and Scales; German surnames include Fliege and Mothes, the latter of which are listed according to the English meaning; Hopper and Schnake are both British and German surnames; Ant It is a Finnish surname; Worm is a German and Danish surname and is also included according to its English meaning. In addition, the British surname also includes Flea. Whether it is derived from flea "flea" requires further research.
