Dog stones refer to solid substances formed inside the dog's body, usually composed of chemicals such as uric acid, oxalic acid, and cholesterol. These substances accumulate in the dog's body and gradually precipitate, eventually forming solid stones.

There may be many reasons for dog stones, including:

1. Dietary problems: Dogs who consume too much high-protein, high-purine or high-oxalic acid food for a long time are prone to stone formation.

2. Insufficient water: If the dog does not drink enough water, the urine concentration will increase, thereby increasing the probability of stone formation.

3. Immune system problems: Some dog breeds may have immune system problems, such as hereditary renal failure, which also increases the risk of stone formation.

4. Diseases and medications: Some diseases and medications (such as hypothyroidism, excessive adrenaline, etc.) may affect the dog's metabolism and hormonal balance, thereby increasing the probability of stone formation.

5. Genes: Some dog breeds may have a genetic tendency to form stones, such as beagles, dalmatians, etc.

Ways to prevent dog stones include: a proper diet, ensuring adequate water intake, regular inspection and treatment of potential health problems, and regular inspection of the dog's urine according to veterinary advice to promptly detect and deal with any abnormalities.
