Why is the turtle shell soft?

Softening of a turtle's shell can be caused by a variety of health issues. Here are some common reasons:

1. Dietary problems: Malnutrition, lack of calcium, vitamin D and other nutrients will cause the turtle shell to soften.

2. Lack of water: If a turtle does not have enough water or drinking water, its shell will easily become soft.

3. Disease: Certain diseases, such as osteoporosis and metabolic acidosis, may also cause turtle shells to soften.

4. Improper housing environment: Overcrowded, unclean or temperature-unstable housing conditions may also cause a turtle's shell to soften.

If you notice softening of your turtle's shell, it is recommended to consult a veterinarian immediately for diagnosis and treatment. While waiting for the vet, make sure your turtle has plenty of water and a proper diet, and check the enclosure to make sure it's clean and comfortable.
