Is the sulcata tortoise a protected animal?

2023-05-29 18:29:41 163

The Sulcata tortoise is a large tortoise native to the Sahara Desert in Africa. In China, the sulcata tortoise is not included in the list of national key protected wild animals. However, in their place of origin and some other countries, such as the United States, Australia, etc., sulcata tortoises are considered a protected species and protected by relevant laws and regulations. In addition, the sulcata tortoise is also listed in Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

It should be noted that due to their large size and long lifespan, Sulcata tortoises require high breeding costs and professional feeding techniques, so they are not suitable for everyone as pets. If you want to own a sulcata tortoise as a pet, you should understand their living habits and required breeding environment, abide by relevant laws and regulations, and never engage in illegal trade or capture.
