Armadillos (pronounced qiú yú) are mammals belonging to the order Squamata. They are also called pangolins or whale turtles and are ancient creatures that have existed for about 160 million years.

Armadillos are usually about 60-90 cm long, with a tail length of about 40-80 cm and a weight of 4-30 kg. They have an oval body with hard scales covering their back, sides and tail to protect them from predators. The front claws of armadillos are longer than their back claws, which can be used to dig holes or prey on insects such as ants and termites.

Armadillos are widely distributed, including in Africa, Asia and Australia. They are usually active at night and hide in rock crevices or caves during the day. Armadillos feed mainly on insects, earthworms and other small invertebrates, and sometimes eat fruits and plants.

Due to their beautiful appearance and ancient history, armadillos have become one of the animals that people pay attention to. However, because their scales and meat have medicinal value in some places, armadillos face threats such as illegal trade and habitat loss.
