The long wheat ear fish (Pseudorasbora elongata) belongs to the order Cypriniformes, the family Cyprinidae, the subfamily Pseudora, and the genus Pseudora elongata. Common name: cuttlefish. English name: Slender top-mouth gudgeon.

Endangerment level: Vulnerable.

The body is slender and almost cylindrical. The head is small, very pointed, almost wedge-shaped. The muzzle is pointed and flat. The mouth is extremely small, located upward, and the oral cleft is almost vertical. Thin lips. No need. The nostrils are small and close to the eyes. The eyes are large and the position is upward. The lateral line is straight and has 43-45 lateral line scales. The starting point of the dorsal fin is located in the center of the body; other fins are short. The body is silvery gray and slightly darker, with a wide black stripe on the central axis from the snout to the tail. There are 4 thin black vertical stripes on the upper part and 1 on the center of the back. There are scattered small black spots on the back and caudal fin, and there is a large black spot on the base of the caudal fin.

It is a fish that lives in the upper layers of rivers and generally inhabits small tributaries. Clear slow-flowing water is the most suitable environment. The reproductive season is from May to June.

The long wheat ear fish is endemic to my country. Distributed in Guilin, Yangshuo and other places in the Xijiang River system, as well as in Fuchun River in Zhejiang and Qiupu River in Anhui.

The population is small and almost no trace of it is found in the Lijiang River where it originated. Other distribution areas have also experienced changes in their living environment due to changes in hydrological conditions due to the construction of water conservancy projects. Furthermore, water pollution and the impact of poisonous and electric fish have caused the population to decrease. Now only a small number of individuals are found in some rivers in Zhejiang and Anhui.
