Ribbon surgeonfish teeth cannot move. There is one forward spine on each side of the caudal peduncle. The dorsal fin has 9 spines with 25-28 rays, and the anal fin has 3 spines with 26-27 rays. The body is light yellow, with multiple blue-gray stripes radiating from the eyes. The transverse band on the rear half of the caudal fin is the same color as the body color band.
Typical coral reef fish, usually inhabiting shallow water near the reef. Body length 160-190 mm, rare. Distributed in the central and western tropical Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean. Our country is found in the South China Sea.
