Details

The Greater Civet, commonly known as the Malay Civet, is a medium-sized carnivore belonging to the family Civetidae, mainly found in Southeast Asia, including countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. They are of medium size, with a body length of up to 60 to 90 cm, and a tail that is almost as long as the body. They usually have grey or brown fur, a lighter belly, and distinct stripes or spots on their bodies. Malay Civets are nocturnal animals that feed mainly on small mammals, birds, insects and fruits. They inhabit a variety of environments such as forests, bushes and farmlands, and have strong adaptability. Due to habitat destruction and illegal hunting, the number of Viverra zibetha has declined in some areas, so it is protected in some countries.
