The civet (scientific name: Nandinia binotata), also known as the South American gun cat, is a small mammal native to South America. Although their name contains "raccoon", they are not actually members of the raccoon family. Civets are cat-like in shape, with a body length of about 50 centimeters, a tail equal to about half the length of the body, and a weight of about 2-4 kilograms. Civets feed on fruits, insects, and small vertebrates and are usually active at night. Civet fur is brown or gray in color, decorated with white or yellow spots or stripes, and is very cute. In some areas, civets are also kept as pets.
