The butterfly fish has a small mouth and a prominent snout. The dorsal fin has powerful spines, with the fourth spine being the longest. The anal fin has three strong spines. There is a large round blue spot with a white edge on the front and lower part of the dorsal fin ray. There are 4 yellow horizontal bands with blue edges on the side of the body.
Inhabits offshore coral reefs or among rocks. Small fish, body length is generally 50 to 90 mm.
It is widely distributed and abundant in number. It is the most common species of butterfly fish in coastal areas of my country. Distributed in the western North Pacific. Our country is produced in the South China Sea and the East China Sea.
