Paramesotriton wulingensis Detailed Introduction

The Youyang population and Jiangkou population of the new species of Wuling scrofula live in small streams with gentle flow in low mountain broad-leaved forests at an altitude of 800-1200 m, in backwater ponds or clean water beside streams.

During the day, it often hides at the bottom of the stream, and sometimes swims to the surface of the water to breathe air by swinging its tail. When swimming, the limbs of this newt are close to the body, and it moves slowly by swinging its tail. It usually moves around at night to find food, and when foraging, it often lies still at the bottom of the water. When aquatic insects and other small animals pass by its mouth, it quickly opens its mouth to bite them and then slowly swallows them.
