Yaotriton dabienicus Life habits and morphological characteristics

The head is much longer than the head width, the head is flat, the snout is truncate, and the trunk is cylindrical or slightly flat. The skin is extremely rough, and the whole body is covered with warts of relatively uniform size; there are no costal grooves on both sides of the body, and the warts are unclearly separated from each other, almost forming a vertical belt; the neck folds are clear, and the ventral grains of the body are prominent, forming a horizontal constriction pattern. The back of the body and tail is dark brown, the ventral surface of the body and around the anus are light dark brown, and only the fingers, toes and the lower edge of the tail are orange-red.

Endemic to China, distributed in Henan (Shangcheng) and Anhui (Yuexi).
It lives in mountainous areas with a moist environment, abundant water resources and lush vegetation at an altitude of 698-767m.

Dabie Yaozhi is an amphibian of the family Salamandridae and genus Yaozhi. It lives in mountainous areas with a moist environment, abundant water resources and lush vegetation at an altitude of 698-767m. Adults are mainly terrestrial, and lay eggs on land near ponds in April and May. The eggs are single-grained, with about 99 eggs; the newly hatched larvae have 3 pairs of external gills, no balancing limbs, and a total length of 16.5-18.0mm.
