Liua tsinpaensis Detailed Introduction

Habitat: This salamander lives in and near small mountain streams at an altitude of 1770-1860m. The stream has a small amount of water, a small slope, and many gravels on the bottom of the water. The streamside is mainly composed of herbaceous plants and shrubs.

Habits: Adult salamanders live on land and hide under rocks near the stream or nearby during the day. Adult salamanders mainly prey on insects and shrimps. During the breeding season, female salamanders lay a pair of egg bags, one end of which is connected to form a "handle" and adheres to the bottom of the stone, while the other end floats in the water. The egg sac is 39-79mm long, with a diameter of 10-11mm in the middle section. It is naturally curved like a banana. The eggs are arranged in a single row in the egg sac, with 6-11 eggs in each sac, and each female salamander lays 13-20 eggs. When the juvenile is more than 60mm long, the external gills gradually shrink and metamorphose into a young salamander.

Breeding season: May and June.

Listed in the second level of the "List of National Key Protected Wildlife in China".
