Feature
The skin has no spots or patterns, the back of the body is dark brown or black gray, and the ventral side is slightly brighter.
Details
The spotted stream salamander is a species of the genus Hynomialidae. This species has been included in the "List of Terrestrial Wildlife with Important Economic and Scientific Research Value under State Protection" issued by the State Forestry Administration of China on August 1, 2000.
The spotted stream salamander often lives under relatively flat stones; it mainly feeds on shrimps, stonefly larvae, etc. in the water.
Location
This species is endemic to China and is distributed in Sichuan, Yunnan and Qinghai.
This salamander lives in mountain streams at an altitude of 1800 to 4000 meters.
Form
The head is flat, longer than it is wide. The trunk is thick and cylindrical, and slightly flattened dorsally and ventrally. When alive, the back is dark brown, with no spots or stripes on the body.
