The Mangshan Yaoteng is an amphibian of the family Salamandridae and the genus Yaoteng. It lives in mountainous areas at an altitude of 952-1200m and in densely vegetated forests in karst areas. Adults hide in caves during the day and are seen in puddles, wells or slow-flowing streams at night. It preys on insects and mollusks.


It is listed in the second level of the "List of National Key Protected Wildlife in China".

Endemic to China, distributed in Hunan (Mangshan, Yizhang).
It lives in mountainous areas with an altitude of 952-1200m, and inhabits densely vegetated forests in karst areas.
The head is flat with a depression on the top, and the length of the head is greater than the width of the head. The snout is slightly truncated. The skin is relatively rough and covered with small warts. There is a row of 12-15 warts on each side of the body, which are spread outward and upward, alternate or connected with each other. The ventral surface is covered with horizontal stripes. The male's parotid glands, front parts of the fingers and toes, anus and lower edge of the tail are orange-red, and there are orange-red spots on the palms and soles, and the rest of the body is black.
