Cai's Yaoteng is an amphibian of the family Salamandridae and genus Yaoteng. The eggs form an egg mass around the pond, about 50-60cm from the edge of the pond, and there is no adult to protect the eggs. The larvae hatch on rainy days and then crawl to the pond. They complete metamorphosis after July and do not overwinter.


Listed in the second level of the "List of National Key Protected Wildlife in China".

In China, it is distributed in Malipo County, Wenshan Prefecture, Yunnan Province. Abroad, it is distributed in Vietnam.
The back is generally brown-black or black; the rib tubercles, the ends of the fingers and toes, the soles of the feet, the palms, and the area extending from the anus to the ventral spine are all bright orange; the skin is rough and has tiny granules; there are obvious bony protrusions on the head; the vertebral ridges are protruding and separated, forming a row of tubercles.
