The South China Water Myotis bat is a very common bat with a wide distribution range. It is mostly collected from caves, including natural caves and artificial caves with water. Yingxiang Wang (2003) included this species in the subspecies of <Myotis daubentonii>, and Topal (1997) considered it as an independent species.

It is distributed in Shandong, Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi, Yunnan, Sichuan, Guangdong, Chongqing, Guizhou, Hainan, Shaanxi, Tibet and Hong Kong. It is only found in India and Vietnam.
It is a small myotis bat species. The body length is about 44mm. Forearm length 34-36mm. The ear shell is short, the inner margin base has a distinct semicircular lobe, and the outer edge slopes downward from the tip. The tragus is long and wide, with a rounded tip and a concave notch at the base of the outer margin. The free edge of the alar membrane terminates at the lateral base of the toe. The tail end protrudes about 1.5mm from the interfemoral membrane. The hind foot is small, half the length of the tibia. Back hairy base black, tip dark brown; The color of the ventral hair is light, the base is black, and the tip is light gray.
