The snakehead is a small fish in the middle and lower layers that inhabits rivers and lakes. It likes to live on the sandy bottom of slow water. They generally enter large lakes for fattening in the summer and mainly feed on aquatic insects or copepods, but also eat a small amount of aquatic plants or algae. Female fish generally reach sexual maturity when their body length is 10.6 cm. Their reproductive season is from April to June, and they lay small floating eggs in rivers.
