There are two types of Gaji fish: red Gaji and black Gaji. The scientific name of red Gaji is Zhensi, and black Gaji is black sea bream. There is an interesting story about the origin of the name of Gargi fish.

According to legend, Emperor Taizong Li Shimin of the Tang Dynasty went on an eastern expedition and came to Dengzhou (now Penglai, Shandong). One day, he chose an auspicious day to cross the sea and visit the Fairy Mountain on the Sea (today's Changshan Island). After tasting a beautiful-looking and delicious fish on the island, he asked the accompanying civil and military officials what the name of the fish was? The officials did not dare to say nonsense, so they bowed. He replied: "The emperor bestows the name." Taizong was overjoyed, thinking that he had chosen an auspicious day to cross the sea, and tasting fresh fish would add luster to the auspicious day, so he named it "Jiaji Fish".

Black snapper is a shallow sea bottom fish that likes to live in shallow seas with sand, mud bottom or many rocks. It is distributed along the coast of my country. In Jiaozhou Bay offshore Qingdao, from April to May every year, black sea bream swims into Jiaozhou Bay from the open sea for reproductive migration. After spawning, the broodstock then swims to deep water areas to overwinter. The young black gills of that year were fed and fattened in Jiaozhou Bay until late autumn before moving to deep water areas to overwinter. Therefore, every spring, experienced fishermen fish for black sea bream in Jiaozhou Bay.

During the development process, the gonads of black sea bream undergo sexual conversion. Juvenile fish are hermaphrodites and males. After one-time differentiation, male and female individuals can be distinguished at about the fifth age. Generally speaking, the majority of young fish are males, while the majority of older fish are females. The body length of black sea bream is generally 12-25 cm, and the maximum length can reach 40 cm.

Black sea bream has strong adaptability to changes in seawater temperature. Its survival water temperature is 4-35℃, and its optimal water temperature is 18-22℃. At the same time, they do not have strict requirements on the salinity of seawater. They can live not only in seawater, but also in brackish water.
