Recently, during a scientific investigation of wildlife in Zijin County, the scientific research team of the Baixi Provincial Nature Reserve Management Office in Zijin, Guangdong monitored wild Chinese pangolins in Jiuhe Town, Zijin County through infrared cameras. This is the second wild Chinese pangolin activity area discovered in Zijin County after the Chinese pangolin population was detected in Longwo Town, Zijin County in 2020.

It is understood that the Chinese pangolin was photographed walking quickly towards the foot of the mountain at 4 a.m. through the infrared camera identification area. Based on the image data, it is speculated that the wild Chinese pangolin is an adult and may be looking for water after going out for food. or defecating, and will return to the burrow shortly afterwards.

The Chinese pangolin is a national first-level protected wild animal. It belongs to the genus Pangolin of the order Lepidoptera and the family Carpidae. It is the only existing mammal with long scales and no teeth. When foraging, it sticks food on its long tongue and sends it directly to the stomach. Its vision has basically deteriorated, and its sense of smell is particularly sensitive. It mainly feeds on termites and ants. It likes hot weather, can climb trees, and comes out at night. It generally lives in places with little human interference, abundant food and water sources, and dense shrubs and grass. When in danger, The body will curl up into a ball and use hard scales to defend itself against attacks. Pangolins have low fecundity, generally giving birth to only one litter per year, and each litter only gives birth to one cub.
